Understanding How to File GSTR 3B

Basics

  • It is a summary of sale and purchase
  • All who are registered have to file (Except composition dealers & ISD)
  • Tax Payment has to be made before final submission
  • Period for which GSTR 3B to be furnished, and their time limits, refer below

For July 2017 – Originally 20th august, extended till 25th Aug (Normal) & 28th Aug (If Transitional Credit availed)

Step 5 – Filling Table 1

Purpose of table = Sales Details & RCM Details (Calculate total Liabililty And Get details of all outward supplies)

Point (a) – Normal Taxable Sales

Point (b) – Zero rated Sales (Exports & Supplies to SEZ)

Point (c) – Nil rated/ exempt sales

Point (d) – RCM purchases/ expenses

Point (e) – Non GST Sales (like petrol etc.)

“Taxable Value” means excluding GST (Amount on which GST to be charged)

Step 6 – Filling Table 2

Out of the sales details earlier furnished in table 1, if there is any inter state supply to-

  1. Unregistered persons
  2. Compositions dealers
  3. UIN Holders

Step 7 – Filling Table 3

All Details of Input Tax Credit

4 sections – (A) ITC Available, (B) ITC Reversed, (C) Net ITC, (D) Ineligible ITC

ITC you will get = (A) – (B) – (D)

  • For supplies on which you have to pay GST in RCM, you can immediately claim input here by mentioning in part (A) point (3).
  • Most of normal input GST on registered purchases & expenses will come in part (A) point (5)
  • Rule 42 & 43 [referred in part (B)] are for apportionment of credit in inputs used for exempt & taxable sales, business & non-business use. (We reduce input by mentioning amount of ITC attributable to exempt/ non-business use)
  • Section 17(5) [referred in part (D)] lists the purchases on which input tax is not eligible (like motor vehicles etc.). (Here we have to mention ITC which is blocked as per 17(5), and it will be reduced)

Step 8 – Filling Table 4

Details of Non Taxable Inward Details.

Purpose = ? = Getting to know all expenses? Blocking of Profit & Loss A/c?

Data required is self explanatory (Read along with heading in image below)

In first line, Fill total amount of purchases from composition dealer, all exempt/ nil-rated purchases

In second line, Fill total of Non GST purchases

Step 9 – Filling Table 5

Details of Interest & Late Fees

Interest – We have to Calculate (Check the box, then type amount) (Intt rate is 18% per annum, calculated daily)

Late Fees = Auto Calculated, we cant edit, cant ‘File’ without paying it

Step 10 – After Filling the 5 tables

  • Press Save GSTR 3B at bottom
  • Wait for 5 seconds approx. (It will say “Saved Succesfully)
  • Press Submit Button (Only if details entered are final)
  • After submission cant edit, and tax payable amount finalised automatically

Step 11 – Payment of tax

Payment Screen

  • If any amount payable in cash, first pay challan, then come here
  • Here, adjust liability with input tax credit, or Cash paid (By typing the amounts as per respective columns)
  • After adjusting all liability, Press on “offset Liability” button at bottom
  • It will be successful only if offset is of exact amount

Step 12 – Submission of Form GSTR 3B

After Payment, Check Box at bottom, and press “File using EVC”/”File using DSC’ button (FOr companies, DSC is only option available)

On successful submission, ARN will be generated

Issue 1 – Wrong data filled in GSTR 3B by mistake (some sales/ purchase bill was not included in amount filled)

  • No Problem!
  • Fill Correct data in GSTR 1 & GSTR 2 of that month
  • Pay the difference/ Get ITC of the difference by filing Form GSTR 3
